fog seems to be everywhere but here

11.21.2011

hello monday. i am happy you brought rain to my world today.
happy i get to pull my wellies over my toes to keep dry.
but, where is the fog? i am seeing it in norway, in england, and everywhere else it seems.
i need more fog. more gray. more mist. more magic.

in the mean time i'll be knitting and listening to violins and women speak...

and trying to remain calm as i may have lost all images from one of my hard drives.

hello monday.

november feels like fog...my favorite

11.01.2011

i'm always so sad to see october go...so it's a good thing november
comes to my rescue with cold, foggy, and dreary weather.

this morning it's raining. i love the contrast of gray skies
with the golden leaves still hanging on the trees.
i love this view from my window.

earlier we said "see you soon" to our dear friend, marte
who has started her journey home to norway.
it was such a treat to have her here for ten whole days.

due to the combination of the beautiful rain and a temporary goodbye
i crawled back in bed to listen to the weather outside.
i skipped my morning run to eat toast smothered in honey butter,
and browsed through old black & white photos of fog.

am in love with november, even if it's not quite october.

st ives {part three}

7.29.2011

this last day in st ives was magically mysterious with the
emerald green water and the misty fog that ate up fishing boats.
i loved that one lonely sea lion swam up to our boat,
looking at us and studying us. those eyes were deep.
i loved the old man with his wool sweater and cap that sold me
my ticket to explore the sea on the "seahorse."
i loved the old man that sat on a bench at looked at his little town,
thinking about how much this place has changed since he was young.
i am missing the sea, the fog, and that sea lion today.
am trying to make today and this weekend in the library just as magical.

29 : into grounding fog

10.14.2010

today i turn 29-years-old.
i love the sound of 29.
i love thinking about the changes i've made
over a year...

as you, dear reader, are already aware of
i ache for foggy weather,
for mornings misty and glimpses of the moon through
clouds moving deliberately slow.

i often wonder why it is that the fog is so enlightening, so soothing
to me when it seems that the opposite would be the case...
but i awoke this morning at 5 o'clock knowing why it is that i
need the fog.

i am an easily distracted woman,
wanting to try everything, do everything, be everything.
this leads to exhaustion...literally burn-out.

then the fog moves in, full of grace.
it covers the eyes of my soul enough so that
i can only see what is right in front of me,
what matters most.
it cuddles me up in its moisture,
and tells me to sit down on dewy grass
to see what breathing feels like:
it feels like warm pearl tea on a dark winter's night;
it feels like laughing with a sister;
it feels like hearing soft notes on an out-of-tune piano;
it feels like poetic words dripping from a tongue;
it feels like a universe full of stars being born, living, and dying;
it feels like...breathing.

somehow fog makes everything so drastically clear to me.
it tells me what i must do, and hides everything else away.

over the past year i have met fear with new hope & trust;
i have met anger with awe & wonder;
i have met frustration with deliberate action;
i have met speechlessness with one word at a time.

i have met anxiety with a smaller world, a more simple world.

so here's to anther year of striving to be
honest, simple, solid, true.

muir beach {part one}

10.06.2010

there isn't a place on this earth more interesting
than a beautiful foggy beach with good friends
...such good people...

we discovered star fish, anemones, the heart of the sea,
clams, seaweed in the most wonderful colors,
and i'm sure we found a bit of ourselves as well.
