a most wonderful package from a most generous woman...straight from paris

4.13.2010

do you remember zina? she is one amazing woman.
we made a little swap...
but i think i came out with the better end of the bargain.
for sure.

i sent her a print of one of my photos
and she sent me this package of treasures
from her recent visit to france...
ooh la la!!

she sent me the sweetest note...
it's as if my own mother wrote it:
so encouraging and oozing with kindness.

she sent me this rose tea from the oldest herbologist in paris,
{it's absolutely lovely...and, as zina promised, is like drinking a bouquet}
an antique handwritten postcard {!!!!!!}
and a book, exuberance, that i can't wait to devour.

i think i might have found something to "collect."
these handwritten notes melt my entire soul.
remember this handwritten note that ceej gave me for valentine's day?
it was the prettiest gift ever given,
and now i add this note to its company.
!!!!!!

this wonderful package from a wonderful woman from a wonderful place
has reminded me that when i some day visit paris it will be in the spring.
i have been listening to amelie-les-crayon since the blossoms stretched their arms,
and now i drink my rose tea, try to decipher the hand-written note,
and pretend i am in that beautiful city.

thank you, dear zina!!!!
{p.s. she and her sisters have started a fantastic cooking blog...what a treat!}

picnics & surprises

4.18.2009

last sunday ceej and i took some time to have an easter treat together.
we yummied our way through this berry tart...
read the tale of jemima puddle-duck (cj's gift to me)
and watched the clouds move, expand, and morph.
it was a good day.

today i'm in sacramento.
yesterday at 2:00 pm i decided, on a whim,
to jump in a car with friends who left early this morning and
who were headed out to join cj on a mountain expedition.
so i thought i'd come along
to give my love a kiss before his little trip.
he had no idea i was coming.
he was definitely surprised.
ate dinner with everyone & sent them on their way.
am patiently awaiting their safe return...
and more kisses.

There's nothing that would match the sheer excitement and surprise of your boy showing up at your doorstep, in a suit, holding the most beautiful flowers. Wouldn't you agree? So simple, but oh so thoughtful!

Today, I got the next-best-thing since my boy happens to be 630 miles away. Ceej had flowers delivered to me today (because he heard I that I was "in labor"). What a sweet surprise for me!

can hardly wait for this LOVEly weekend!

Unexpected Gift

1.06.2009

CJ and I returned home to Sacramento late Sunday night. I immediately went to the mailbox because I was worried how stuffed it would be after two weeks of vacation (we forgot to put our mail on "hold"). There was a package among the unusual amount of mail. What could it be? Had I ordered something long ago and forgotten about it? Hmm. So we opened it up. Immediate confusion. Who would send us THIS?! Whoever it was made me laugh outloud. Turns out it was my cousin and wife from NYC...thanks Ryan and Bea!! This will probably be passed around at next year's white elephant parties.

what's better than a surprise?

TWO SURPRISES!

Ceej is pretty darn good at keeping my life filled with fresh flowers. The employees at the local floral shop are becoming some of his good friends. Anyway, to the point. Yesterday I was having a "lost" sort of day...which made me a little blah. For lunch Ceej showed up with a bouquet of thistle and other lovely purple blossoms! Thistle are in my top five favorite flowers. Those flowers were a real treat that made my heart swell with joy! Then later that evening Ceej surprised me yet again. I had been at a meeting from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. When I returned he had a Parisian Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich (lemon) waiting for me! They are by far my most favorite treat EVER. The treat was more than icing on the cake. My blah day was instantly the best day of the week so far. Because of the heat we've been having Ceej had to take some ice with him to Ginger Elizabeth's, and pack the treat carefully to ensure he got it home in perfect, chilly condition. Hooray for thoughtful spouses!

Surprise!

One of the best things about having your spouse gone for a couple days is you can plan for a great surprise without any worries of getting caught. When Ceej got home from his little trip I had these awaiting him:

My mother's parents married this week 65 years ago! They are oh so lovely in oh so many ways. I'm in the process of making them a mix of the top music hits of that year. Here is the playlist:

1. There Are Such Things - Tommy Dorsey
2. I Had the Craziest Dreams - Harry James
3. I've Heard That Song Before - Harry James
4. That Old Black Magic - Glenn Miller
5. Taking A Chance On Love - Benny Goodman
6. Comin' In On a Wing and a Prayer - Song Spinners
7. You'll Never Know - Dick Haymes
8. In the Blue of Evening - Tommy Dorsey
9. Sunday, Monday or Always - Bing Crosby
10. Paper Doll - Mills Brothers

After listening through all of these, I can't help but think, "music just isn't as romantic as it used to be...all of these 'hits' are guaranteed to woo anyone into dancing cheek to cheek!"

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, GRANDMA & GRANDPA!
