a spring picnic in mom's secret garden...and a recipe
5.29.2013
before i left for our voyage magazine england extravaganza i had to take time
to enjoy the apple blossoms in my mom's little orchard...
those apples have provided snacks and brotherly-teasing-ammo for years.
this place is one of my most favorite peaceful refuges.
i wanted a simple little treat to enjoy to take advantage of all the great berries at the market...
so i returned to an old staple: almond cake. click here to get the recipe.

harvest feast | part three | backyard goodness {images by britt chudleigh}
1.18.2013
this is the late fall meal i am always dreaming of...and britt captured it beautifully.
and, honetsly, sarah winward's home is as magical as it looks.
they did a great job remodeling a post-war home, and bringing the yard to life.
as ceej and i look for our own place to settle i think i secretly hope to find something just
as good as this--that yard, with its foliage and beehives, makes any heart at peace.
i felt as if i had found eden--mostly because i was with gods and goddesses
who had a grace about them that is so admirable--
and maybe it was because sarah was about to have her first baby the very next day.
harvest. in every way.
thank you, dear women, for letting me join you in such a memorable supper.

yes, this food was as delicious as it looks. britt's images have me wishing we could do this
meal together every single night.
those salted caramel pears were just right, and the cheese and fruit platter was just the kind of nibbling food i could eat forever.
oh, those were the days...before this new desk job i've got. sigh. the pros and cons of life.
i'm happy now, and i was happy then. which happy was my favorite?
hard to say.
hope you are all well and keeping warm.

announcing...the next Voyage magazine is on its way {food edition}
12.13.2012
oh my, oh my, oh my! i'm working on the final layout touches for our next
voyage magazine edition...and it's oh so more glorious than the last one--
mostly because there's so much food to look at and talk about.
truly a norwegian and italian feast to behold.
you're gonna love it. britt and marte have some knock-your-socks off images
and stories that will make you go "mm-hmmmm."
that one day i got to make a delicious galette while talented artists captured it on film {all photos by britt chudleigh}
12.04.2012
oh my, oh my, oh my. i think these photos turned out rather dreamy thanks to britt
and her trustworthy artistic eye. i'm rarely on the "other side" of the lens and i am
more than pleased with how britt captured our afternoon and evening cooking away.
we decided a home-cooked, comfort food extravaganza was in order before the frost settled in
and the harvest was ripe. no only did all the vegetables look incredible, but this galette
was quite yummy i'd say. i'm kind of craving one even though i just finished a big meal.
i'm hungry again thanks to britt's magical images.
and guess what? there's more. oh yes. this is only part one, my friends.
just you wait. there's dessert and dreamy outdoor eating ahead.
so happy to know this talented lady.
food, loved ones, good books : craving all three
11.21.2012
last fall two of my favorites, marte and mercedes, came over to make things pretty in the backyard...
once upon a time when we actually had a backyard all to ourselves.
anyway, i was just browsing through the ol' archives and came across these images
that i never got around to posting. it was so fantastic to watch marte's creative brain working
and to see mercedes naturally sit herself into the entire dreamy scene.
i could really go for some homemade macarons and a good book right about now...
just a few more hours of work ahead of me, and then on to cooking for the big day tomorrow.
by friday i should be able to put my feet up a bit.
