new forest national park : where i purposefully got lost and ran into locals and horses and heather

8.08.2011

saturday i took a quick train down to new forest national park.
i needed to clear my head to make room for organizing all of my
thoughts for this final paper...which i turned in this morning! done and done!

the forest was beautiful. i have been dying to see a landscape like this:
filled with blooming heather, roaming horses, and deep magical forests.
i wandered around, always keeping a general sense of which direction town was in.
i ran into an old local couple with their two dogs. they were surprised to see
an american girl tromping through the area alone. they were lovely,
and assured me that my directional instincts were correct.

i walked for hours, and wandered back into town for a late lunch,
hopped back on the train and came back to write my heart out.

love that being outside can put so much into perspective.

the forest looks so magical. i expected fairies or hobbits to be in the corner of your pictures.

Nikki,

I was so totally trying to find those faeries and hobbits...they are too quick for my human eyes :)

How I long for a little thatched cottage near the forest! Lovely place that is...

Wow, it is hard to believe places like this are real. I kind of thought they only existed in books like "The Secret Garden".

Nicole,

I too thought places like this only existed in magical books...being here for a few weeks has made me realize how inspiring the landscape is, and those "magical" books aren't too far from reality :)

These pictures reminded me of the quote you have on your sidebar... REVERENCE... That's what nature does to me.

enjoyed your pictures so much.... seemed as if Robin Hood should have shown up from behind the trees with his Merry band. Jeanne
