what else could you need in life than an autumn picnic, whitman, and good bread?

9.27.2012

we finally found a little window to go up to the mountains for a quick little picnic.
i'm working on trimming down my to-do list, trying to liberate myself from things
i think i have to do--like learn a second language. i'd rather have time with ceej in
the autumn mountains. and i'd rather have more time to really work on projects i
truly care about. some day i might have time to learn a second language. but not today.

i'm feeling in a very poetic mood these days: whitman and dickinson in particular.
it's sort of a little tragedy that i never had a course studying either of these poets
while i've been in graduate school...and it doesn't look like it's going to happen
my last summer while i'm in oxford. i'll just have to keep my eyes peeled for the rest
of my life for whitman and/or dickinson classes i can audit some day. some day.

how is autumn where you live? i am quite surprised at how vibrant the colors have
been after a summer of drought. who knew these lovely trees had such a surprise for us?
i'm currently trying to find another day in the remainder of the week to head up for
another picnic lunch. it's just the thing to clear a crowded mind.

These are the moments that I live for. We're still waiting for fall to arrive in northern California. It's still 95 degrees and sunny around our parts. But, oh, how I'm craving a little bit of your world right now. Thank you for this little teaser of fall. More please! :)

Such beautiful autumnal colours! Nature is the perfect painter's palette! I love this time of the year when everything changes and there are lots of leaves and conkers to collect. Here in Cambridge, Britain it is now getting vert autumnal too.

I love everything about this post: the red autumn leaves, nature, your outfit, the picnic and most of all the poetry, of course.

Nothing beats Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson on an cool and sunny autumn day! I'm currently reading german poems for a literature course at university and couldn't be happier too.

Sometimes I think we'd really had a lot to talk about :)
Wish you a wonderful weekend!

Such a wonderful post! Autumn is starting to show here in the Netherlands, but not yet with such vibrant colors. I think it will surprise me in a week or two!

Have you come across coursera.org? I'm taking the Modern and Contemporary American Poetry class at the moment and the first poets we covered were Whitman and Dickinson. Whitman completely blows my mind, I love him so.
It's a little too late to do the course 'properly' but if you sign up for coursera all the tutorials and discussion forums and so on are still up there...

So beautiful!

This year, I'll have two autumns.
I was in Alberta/BC three weeks ago and allt he leaves were already yellow.
Here in Europe it's still pretty green, not a lot of colored leaves yet!
