project grand teton : training begins this week
8.07.2012
this past year i've been anxious to begin a journey into mountaineering:
i love skiing, i love hiking, i used to love climbing, and now i think i can
combine all three, reviving my love for climbing by going on mountain journeys.
ceej will be my trainer, and we're starting with a classic: the grand teton.
at the end of the summer/beginning of fall ceej will take me up the mountain.
training commences thursday morning:
running in my mountains, acclimatizing to higher altitudes, getting my heart strong
after six weeks of being at a lower altitude here in vermont.
we'll be going on lots of long day hikes over the weekends,
i'll be refreshing my climbing muscles and problem-solving skills--finding confidence in the rock, my partner, and my own body.
there's lots to do to get ready. i'll be keeping you up on my training routine, the gear i'll need,
and all the ups and downs. right now i'm just excited. remind me of this when i feel like
collapsing after a morning run up a mountain.
future goals: ski mount ranier, mount st. helen's, venture into wyoming and montana wilderness...and some day make it all the way to places like patagonia. i'll be keeping you all updated on it all.
onward!

Tetons are my favorite. we stayed at the climbing lodge for cheap before staying the back country. k and i climbed the paint brush devide, and i got a little bit of altitude sickness but it was the most memorable hike. we were just the too of us right before the park closed for winter. we i swam in the clearest lake up high in the mountain, saw a grizzle and her two young ones and plenty of moose.
then when we where all done a few days later, we sat at jackson hole lodge staring out at the view feeling wonderful.

I have been wanting to do mountaineering for years now but I can't find a perfect buddy for it. Also, maybe because I'm still a student and I'm obliged to do stuff. Someday, I'm going to have time to pursue this dream: to climb mountains! Have fun in your trip! Looking forward to your stories! :)
i am so excited to follow along with your training. this sounds like the most amazing goal. the best of luck to you.. it's going to be great- training and all.
