this will make your day...and make you rethink your to-do list

4.02.2012

i am in a crisis moment: i have a paper due tomorrow, and i still don't even have
a basic idea of what i want to write about. i'm trying to take deep breaths and
emerge myself in my research, page by page, line by line--in hopes something
will come to this frantic brain of mine.

lately i have felt overwhelmed by the beauty on the internet--there's so much beauty
and i often fall into the trap that all that beauty must be mine...
which unfortunately leads me to a cluttered life. i'm feeling the weight of expectations
and possessions. isn't it crazy how hard it is to simplify?

i ache for simplicity. don't you?

what are your simplicity secrets?

{thanks to my sweet friend, mo, for sharing this lovely video with me}

To me. infusing simplicity means learning to say no. Sadly, I'm not very good at this.

Kristina,

I totally agree. I feel as if I go through phases. Sometimes it's easier to say no, and other times I feel an anxiety to say "yes" in fear that I will miss an opportunity.

Here's to more will-power and saying no!

For me, simplicity is learning to enjoy those bits of goodness and beauty around you, especially during the times of stress. I'm in the middle of working on a paper as well, and it helps to appreciate those small, simple things as I go. A good cup of coffee, a silly look from a friend, the way the sun shines through the window... Thank you for sharing the video.

I am struggling with something similar. I am usually quite frugal, but lately my spending has lost some control. Life doesn't feel simple anymore, as I've seemed to become obsessed with having "things". New housewares, clothes, etc.
If I had to guess, I'd say leading a simple life in part means appreciating what you already have.

Oh Maia has it so, so right :)

That wicker chair, pulled up to the window ... that looks like home!

The paper is not as important as what you learned from its composition.
Have you learnt something? Are you suddenly aware that there is more going on than you can fathom? Then you're doing it right!

Mizi Moo,

I have definitely learned that there is too much to write about...how do I tie it all together? How do I focus on just one aspect? Writing papers is always such a mind-blowing experience for me...which is why I always have such a hard time even starting! I continually have to force myself to just start writing, even if I feel like I have no idea what I'm saying. Usually it works, but this one feels especially unwieldy.

Love every one's advice/experiences so far! Keep 'em comin'!

My fiancée and I have already started taking baby steps towards a slower and healthier lifestyle. Our dream is to have our own little farm in my fiancée's home country of New Zealand. We both want something simple, airy and sunny; a place where we could both escape from the outside world.

I'm extremely inspired by this video and I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do: http://vimeo.com/34938446

Nathalia,

I love Tiger in a Jar! Julie and Matt make beautiful films that I want to jump inside of and have a life that simple and lovely.

Good luck to you and your fiance with your dreams of a farm in NZ...sounds dreamy!

Deep breath.... just wiping away the tears... so much beauty out there - I agree. Serendipitous that I should see this today - when I have been asking this question mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically for quite some time now... Thank you for sharing. Sending you vibrations of relaxation, allowing, clarity and endurance :-)

Ann, I saw this video via SimpleLovely a little over a week ago. It was splendid and held so much simplicity and truth. Makes me yearn for that kind of existence. This video is making the interweb rounds.
