is there anything better than knitting by the fire
while listening to a child's christmas in wales or little women?
i could do this forever.
i'm making fingerless gloves for nieces who think the gloves are elegant and pretty,
and a cowl-neck scarf for celia jane because the cold constantly grips her...
and others that i won't mention here to keep some gifts a surprise.
are you making anything by hand for gifting this holiday season?

I am knitting too! I still want to get together with you and have you help me with my blog. Do you have any time this trip?
I love listening to stories!! There is something so special about listening to a story. Ahhh I love it! Hugs!
the past few years, I've been quite dedicated to a handmade holiday. I've had to have a little reality check this year after just adding a third child to our household a month ago, but I did make a quilt for my father out of his old running t shirts, and a hand stitched table runner for my mother a la alabama chanin reverse applique. My little babes will get simple handmade gifts from mama as well...a blanket for the new babe, and mermaid dolls for my girls. I love handmade holidays :) Your knitting sounds lovely. I'm thinking that knitting is on my list of things to learn in 2011...
I love the purple yarn. It's soooo beautiful!
I will making cookies soon. I made christmas ornaments last year.
I am making a really lovely hunter green scarf for my uncle and silhouettes of my aunts family for her.
That purple yarn is so pretty! I want to make some socks this year, for myself first and then for gifts.
I'll be making Christmas cards myself (mostly paper collages and maybe drawings too) and if I can find the time I might also sew little felt puppets and paint/rubberstamp pretty colourful papers as letterpaper for penpals too. And if I had even more time I'd take up making beaded jewellery again. Not to mention all the baking of course. And some day I will try to learn how to knit again :)
Plenty of knitted goods have been made here too! I love your choice of wool. Such lovely colours xx
I have some handmade christmas stockings that I drag out every year and which, suprizingly, my kids still get excited by. A couple of christmas' ago I made my twin girls skirts from a brown chinese silk fabric...they were simple with hipster waistbands that tied on the side with a long sash...but that was then and now they are 16 and have their own 'sophisticated' wish lists. One year I made an advent calendar...I stitched small bags made from checked linen and inside I put little finds from charity shops, chocolate, marbles...it was a shared calendar between my girls and my son..they still talk about now.
Small, usable things. Muslin bags filled with cosmos and zinnia seeds from my garden, muslin bags for groceries, a simple embroidered scarf for mom. I have the hardest time figuring out things for the guys in my life.
Yes, and have totally wanted to blog about it, but can't because it will ruin the surprise. Glad you are enjoying yourself.
My husband and I have been listening to so many books lately and we decided we want our kids to do the same-just like the olden day radio.
As for hand made gifts I always make some jewelry and I am hoping to do a bit of baking as well.
