october : "enchant the land with amethyst"

10.01.2010

the first poem i ever memorized, of my own volition,
was robert frost's "october."
i have since grown rusty in my memory of it,
but every first day of october the first lines still pop into my head:

october has always been my favored month,
perhaps this is because i began my life in this month...
i was born in a month that most people associate
with the end of a life.
spring usually gets all the "new life" credit, but
i began at the end.

perhaps this is why i am so intrigued by
paradox:
how life can be both simple and incredibly complex,
that death is a beginning,
light & dark must simultaneously exist,
and the list goes on.

it's october.
and my life begins anew.

{these leaves are kept in the pages of one of my first book of poems...they come from high up in my mountains}

gorgeous musings about october - though i am not an october baby, i also love the month. it's beauty is a bit more quiet than spring but to me more mature and wise.
