farewell stratford-upon-avon

a couple of weeks ago we were able to see RSC's "macbeth." holy powerful.

it started with cellos in the dark. there were big booming echoes of doors closing throughout the entire play, the acting was incredible, the "witches" came down from the sky and moved when we all thought they were "fake." seriously such a great production.

last night i saw my last play: "a midsummer's night dream." it started slow and dark, but we spent the majority of the play laughing, squirming, and screaming with glee. hilarious. 

i've never seen such comedy in my life before. 

i'm trying to keep both plays permanently in my head and body forever more. this is what i'll remember, not the stress i had about this final paper. 

i'll miss walking the town and eating dinner with friends before the show.

i'll miss hearing everyone analyze the play afterward. 

oh, how i've loved all of my theater experiences here.

i'd have to say my favorite three were:

1. a midsummer night's dream

2. macbeth

3. much ado about nothing

sigh. goodbye stratford-upon-avon.

my sunday in london : markets, shops, a lovely museum, yummy dinner, and a wonderful play

my day in london was a blast. thank you for all the wise suggestions!

we started in covent garden, browsing through the covered market,

and then we made our way to the seven dials area where i fell

victim to two pairs of new shoes...they just lept into my hands!

we spent some time in the tate modern. so so so wonderful.

and we ended up eating dinner at a turkish restaurant

just across the street from the globe.

alls well that ends well was fantastic.

it was certainly more upbeat than the other shakespeare

plays we've been seeing. they've all been wonderful,

but i was definitely happy for something lighter.

i'm off to tintagel and st. ives for the weekend...

should be lovely!

old pubs, closed graves, boats named after famous women, and a theater experience of a lifetime

last week we all took a coach (aka a bus..."coach" sounds so fancy, doesn't it?!)

to stratford-upon-avon to see the royal shakespeare company perform

"the merchant of venice."

we started out by finding food, and just haphazardly ran into the oldest

pub in the city, and decided to eat there.

my tea was perfect, and the curry was so comforting.

we tried to hurry and run to shakespeare's grave, but were too late.

at least we got to stroll around the church grounds and look at the headstones.

very pretty city indeed. hoping to have time to go back and explore.

i had never seen the merchant of venice performed before

so i didn't really know what to expect.

i was worried, at first, when i saw that it was a las vegas theme...

but it ended up fitting the plot and characters quite well.

and, to top it all off, i was really thrilled to see patrick stewart

play shylock, the rich jewish money-lender.

was a great night. next week we go back to see macbeth!
