up the road : thousand peaks ranch
8.26.2012
this is the ranch. my great-grandmother's ranch. she was a tough woman of the west.
this land is fraught with a bizarre history, and yet, of course, it's one of the most beautiful
pieces of land in all of utah. i spent my youthful summers here, and now my nieces and
nephews are doing the same: enjoying walks to the many lakes, crossing rivers, saying
hello to all the horses, looking for fish, snakes, and salamanders, spending nights
down by the river roasting marshmallows before bed, and then looking for faerie
rings in the morning in hidden places.
i hope this place is forever in the family. it is a refuge beyond words.

You are inspiring me to get amongst the trees. These are beautiful photos! What a wonderful place where your grandmother lived!
What a precious inheritance of beauty and nature! I can only imagine what it must be like for a child to spend time in a place like this, but then again, even as an adult, that kind of magical exploration and wonder doesn't disappear.
