chamonix : the village

6.15.2012

we were in chamonix during the off-season, which made for a beautifully quiet town.
not every shop or restaurant was open, but there were enough places filled with
yummy food to keep my sweet-tooth and my belly quite satisfied...seriously,
how can you go wrong with cheese, pastries, and sparkling water at your fingertips?!
i took full advantage.

the buildings are old, nothing to go "wow" about because this place is not about the buildings,
it's about the mountains...but, still, the buildings and homes are quite charming, and i could
easily move right in tomorrow and feel that i had entered a dream world.

in summary, i loved feeling like we had this quiet mountain village all to ourselves
and the scenery everywhere i looked was fantastic...and my belly was content.

Looks lovely!

Do you have some places you would like to recommend?

Unfortunately, I'm the worst at remembering names of places...I can only remember what it looks like :( Sorry for my forgetful brain!

Love the off-season traveling ... we do all our camping in Fall or early Spring to have this magical "this place is all ours" feeling.

I think those old buildings look just perfect among the mountains. It would be disappointing to see anything flashy, modern, or overly-touristic in such natural, rustic settings

Anya, I totally agree about the buildings...love how they are just naturally part of the scenery :)

Looks like fairy tale land! I'm loving your Alp photography, and trying not to be bitterly jealous of your adventures and amazing photo skills ;)
