sunset at delicate arch

3.07.2012

life has been filled to the brim lately. i crash as soon as i get a free minute to rest.
hoping this blog won't be as neglected as it has been lately.

i love the in-between times of day that are the morning and the evening.
i love when the sun in just below or just above the horizon...its light does something magical.
i've never been at delicate arch for a sunset, and boy was i surprised to see the crowd for the show.
the wind was strong so we ducked behind a nice rock ledge and huddled together...
although ceej couldn't contain his excitement and he jumped from rock formation to rock formation.

i think i could spend the rest of my life writing about the desert and be perfectly happy.
unfortunately, we people here in utah are dealing with some insane representatives
who want to take all of the public/federal land from me and from you so they can
have their way with it (you know, sell it off to corporations so we can't enjoy it any more, etc).
ugh. i often wonder how much time politicians actually spend in the wilderness.
i think they could use a little tonic of wildness, don't you?

You photograph an area I love to visit. It looks amazing in the evening light.

Such a wonderfully magical place, the desert. There is something about it that speaks to my soul like no other place. (And the crazy potential that part of it may be sold off and developed gives me anxiety!)

p.s. I love your style - it's so young Katharine Hepburn. ;)

I am so concerned with the land being demolished for profit. The places I visit and the ones I have yet to come across It pains me to hear that it can just be bought.

what a gorgeous place......i would love to go and visit it. I hope there are enough people making a lot of noise about selling off such land so the politicians will have to think twice

Beautiful shots! For a girl who is used to woods and lakes - desert seems like an alien territory. I so hope to get to explore it some time soon.

For one of our anniversaries (can't remember which now) I framed a photograph of my husband and I kissing under Delicate Arch. It's still hanging in our home and it brings back a flood of memories whenever I stop to look. I can feel the sunset in your photos! So beautiful!

And, I am sure if more people spent more time in all the places we call wilderness then more people would understand and know of its ability to heal and replenish. When you are there you know it was made just for you, and somehow it was made just for everyone around you, as well...it IS magic. What is the talk in Utah? Which public lands are they trying to gouge? Please not Moab, Arches, Canyonlands, Escalante? Please no!

Oh I do! They definitely need to go out into the wild. These photos are absolutely gorgeous. What a perfect experience! Well, aside from the wind.

I love the canyon lands....really...and...YES...the politicians in Utah are CRAZY...messed up...out of touch...need I go on? It is sad...very sad...that is why I had to leave Utah...as much as I loved the state...there was an awareness issue that was more than my realist sensibilities could handle...inspiration and motivation to make sure one gets their behinds out to vote...don't you think?

What an incredible landscape! I love the transitions of nature, twilight deepening to velvet night, storm into stillness, shadow into light...
It looks a very special place to be at any time of day!

It is my dream to go there. And I also love what you wrote... I think everyone needs to spend a little more time in nature.
