i am quite absorbed with reading the secret garden these days.
it's all i can think about:
running through the gardens, reddening cheeks
making friends with a robin that loves to be talked about
stumbling upon a door to a secret garden
looking out at the moor every morning
listening to the wind wuthering
telling stories about india and mary's ayah
taking lessons from dickon who is followed by a fox, a crow, and two squirrels
i'm ready to move to the moor
and find a secret garden.
if that doesn't happen this weekend
then i guess i'll settle for either visiting this garden
or heading up to the mountains to redden my cheeks.

A lovely post, totally enchanting.
The Secret Garden is one of my all time favs. I love you and your sweet posts.
Love your words and photos! And one of my favorite times of the year to take photos is the smack dab in the middle of fall and winter. I love the quietness winter has to offer. XO!
You must call me if you end up going to Filoli this weekend. I'd LOVE to see you and Ceej again.
oh i loved that book when i was a child. i think you inspired me to read it again. whould be the perfect reading for a cozy november afternoon...
One of my all time favourite books.
When my only girl was five I read it to her and she was so obsessed with it that I got her the audio book (read by Helena Bonham Carter. Perfect.) and she listened to it every night for about a year. She told me she wanted to marry Dickon...
Wonderful post, and beautiful, beautiful photos, as always.
As soon as I read the line about charming animals I KNEW you were talking about the Secret Garden. Exact lines from the movie:
"I talk to animals and they talk back."
"Animals don't talk."
"They do if you listen."
Oh man, I need to go back to that happy place.
These are such beautiful photos ... in LOVE with the first ... I have never read the Secret Garden! Seems like this would such a great time of year to read it. Thanks for the tip!
That has always been one of my favorite books. Thank you for sharing such lovely images to go with it. When I think of the heather and the moors I'll have lovely images to go with the words.
There really is nothing to beat a moor for the sheer scale of sky - the blue bigness of it above your heads takes the breath away. They are my favourite places to be.
Oh, this is so beautiful. The Secret Garden is one of my most favourite books; it changed my life. And these photos are perfect♥
